SquadCast Review — An In-depth Guide to Know If It’s For You As a Podcaster

Squadcast review

So, you’ve watched an episode of the Joe Rogan Experience and have thought to yourself, “Huh, this seems fun. Maybe I should try out podcasting, too”, but have no idea where to start.

Or, you’re a grizzled podcasting vet who has been having issues and considering shifting to different software for your podcasts. Either way, you’ve stumbled upon SquadCast, which led you to wonder if it’s the right fit for you.

Let me begin by stating that you’re making the right decision. Squadcast is an outstanding tool packed with brilliant features. I was one of the early adopters when it only featured audio recordings. I have to admit they’ve come a long way since then.

Full transparency time: I may get some commission if you click on these links but it won’t cost you anything. Also, these tools have not paid me to write this review. I use it every day and I support these projects regardless.

SquadCast Review

SquadCast, the crème de la crème of recording and editing software, empowers users by capturing high-definition video and studio-quality audio conversations.

SquadCast also offers post-production collaboration services and patent-pending cloud-based technology. These features ensure the production of multiple shows at the same time.

Moreover, SquadCast is also planning to remove the Beta label after some configuration to offer greater usability.

The main reason I love SquadCast is that their UI is super creator-friendly. The Green Room helps you organize and manage everything before you proceed with your interview.

The fact that companies such as Spotify, ESPN, Microsoft, Adobe & Shopify use Squadcast speaks for how reliable and great the software is.

SquadCast Review – What I Love About SquadCast

  • Excellent User Interface – SquadCast’s UI is very well designed and has a premium feel to it.
  • Record Video – Yes, Squadcast now offers video recording. It helps the host record studio-quality video with up to 3 remote guests and prepares individual files for each participant.
  • Superior Audio and Video Quality – SquadCast quickly renders the tracks for download right after your podcast.
  • Separate recordings: The software automatically records hosts’ and guests’ audio separately. Later, you can stitch the audio tracks in post-production.
  • User-friendly platform – It’s very easy to use. The host simply needs to click ‘Add Session’, fill in some details, and provide an email address. The invitation link will be sent to the guests automatically.
  • Seamless Guest Experience – SquadCast features a very simple recording process that helps the guests focus on their job. They don’t need to download anything. It’s all done in the browser and requires no additional software.
  • Backups – SquadCast keeps backups of all recording sessions and claims that users can access them if they ever lose primary recording tracks.

SquadCast Review – What I Don’t Love About SquadCast

There are a few things I don’t love about SquadCast. It’s a brilliant tool, but it does have its own set of drawbacks.

  • Picky with Browsers – The biggest issue of this software is that it only works for Chrome, Firefox, Brave, Opera, and Edge. However, it is yet to work with Safari, iOS, and iPadOS.
  • Steep Pricing: Unlike some of its competitors, SquadCast doesn’t have a free version. More so, its pricing starts from $20/month, making it quite a difficult catch for beginners or hobbyists.
  • Limited to 3 guests: With SquadCast, you can only invite up to 3 guests at a time. This might prove to be an inconvenience for some podcasters.

SquadCast Review – Things I wish SquadCast Had

As a podcaster, I believe the addition of some more features would help this product reach its full potential. I wish SquadCast added:

  • Free Version – As mentioned earlier, SquadCast isn’t really budget-friendly. I would’ve loved it if it offered a free version for beginners and hobbyists.
  • Customizable options – I wish the Green Room was more customizable to give my podcasts a more distinctive feel.
  • Mobile App – A mobile app makes the podcasting experience a lot more seamless. I would love a mobile app for SquadCast so I can use it on the go.
  • Larger Audience Capacity – Being able to host only 3 people at a time can be very limiting for podcasters. I would personally love to have more than 3 guests at one go.
  • Studio Audience and Listener Experience – I would like to have some live streaming tools, like instant chat features or call-ins to boost audience engagement.
  • Screen Sharing – Unlike Riverside.fm, SquadCast doesn’t have a screen sharing option. I wish they had that for a frictionless remote recording experience.

SquadCast Review – The Green Room Walkthrough

SquadCast Review - The Greenroom

SquadCast takes pride in its quality. This podcasting tool makes it convenient for you to host online interviews and record them in HD quality compared to other services.

The video quality is apparent in the picture below.

Before you hop into an interview, you can adjust all relevant settings for yourself in the Green Room.

On the left, you will find options to shift to whichever device you want to use as your mic and your headphones. You will also be able to disable Echo Cancellation, something you won’t find on other platforms like Zoom

On the right side of your screen, a signal bar will help you assess whether or not you have a strong internet connection to proceed with the interview.

When you’re ready to start the interview, you may press the ‘Record’ button and your sessions will start recording.

If by any chance, your guests haven’t received an invite or are unable to find it, you can simply send them a link through email or message by copying the link directly from the platform.

Once you’re done with the interview, hit the stop button. Your recordings will be downloaded automatically, which will be visible on the bar at the lower-left corner of the screen. You can also merge and mix these audio recordings if you wish.

Seems easy though, right?

SquadCast is packed with amazing features and the fact that its UI is so incredibly user-friendly really helps you focus more on the interview itself rather than being worried about nitty-gritty technical details. Moreover, because audio recordings are available in multiple formats (mp4, mp3, wav), it allows you more diversity when it comes to editing your videos.

If you still want to explore other options and don’t have the time to do so individually, here’s a list of alternatives with their pros and cons to help you choose the right podcasting software for you.
