Postscript Review: An Overview

Postscript

Founded in 2018 Postscript is a powerful and easy-to-use SMS platform built for Shopify stores.

It has numerous tools that help you grow your subscriber list and effectively engage them. You can use various pop-ups, banners, QR codes, and keywords to get subscribers. Moreover, you can engage these subscribers by creating innovative campaigns to convert them into customers.

Postscript uses powerful automation and segmentation features that allow you to target your customers precisely. They allow over 60 filters so that you can define your segments as narrowly as you’d like to. As a result, you can develop strategies for any customer.

You can further monitor your strategies’ effectiveness by using the message and subscriber analytics to get reports. Postscript prioritizes creating a TCPA compliant list to avoid illegally or unethically engaging your customers.

Postscript also features several integrations, including Gorgias, Zendesk, Okendo, Klaviyo, and Yotpo. Unfortunately, it does not support any e-commerce platform other than Shopify and Shopify Plus.

Despite being only four years old, Postscript’s achievements speak for themselves. Currently, they have more than 6,000 users, including Arizona Iced Tea, Brooklinen, Death Wish Coffee, and Kopari. Besides, they have also made it to Forbes’s Next Billion-Dollar Startup for 2021.

Postscript Review: What I Liked

There is a lot to like about Postscript. Here are some of my favorite things about Postscript.

Advanced Pop-Up Customization Using CSS

If you’re not satisfied with the customization features for designing a pop-up, you can take it to the next level using CSS Code. This option gives you further flexibility to create unique pop-ups.

If you need help, Postscript has additional resources to guide you through this process.

Emphasis on Compliance

As a store owner sending numerous text messages to consumers, you need to stay up-to-date with SMS marketing rules and regulations to ensure your store remains operational.

Postscript comes with compliance features and expertise that puts you at ease regarding legal regulations. Their tools and features follow guidelines set by the mobile carriers, CTIA (Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association), TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act), mobile carriers, and other regulatory bodies.

Postscript includes automated compliance language on pop-ups, opt-in forms, and checkout collection that can’t be edited or removed. They plan to implement more changes on their platform as the rules for compliance change.

Moreover, they have a compliance experts team, in-house legal team, direct relationship with carrier networks, and a partnership with the TCPA Defense Force, which keeps them up-to-date with any change. All these perks help Postscript notify the users promptly about any changes in the regulations.

Support and Community

Postscript offers you onboarding support by a specialist starting from the trial period. This makes you familiar with the software and helps you build your first campaigns.

A learning center is also available to help you get acquainted with Postscript. Moreover, their help center and blog can help you find answers to any question you might have regarding Postscript.

For accounts that spend over $500 per month, a Customer Success Manager will aid you in various matters. These include strategizing the SMS programs, reviewing your account monthly, and setting up integrations.

Postscript Review: Unique Selling Points

Now, let us look at some unique features you can only find on Postscript.

Smart Segmentation

Postscript allows you to define subscriber and customer segments as narrowly as you’d like to. You can combine as many as 40 segmentation filters, including area codes, app integrations, historical Shopify data, and SMS activity.

Automation Triggers

You can select from over 65 events in the customer journey that can trigger automation.

Checkout started, keyword replies, orders created, orders in transit and specific product views can all be set as triggers. It also features visual flow builders and splitting automation into numerous branches for A/B testing.

Frequently used automation include abandoned cart, loyalty offers, post-purchase displays, shipping notifications, subscriber welcome series, and many more.

Trigger and User Filters

Postscript offers you over 85 trigger filters and 40 user filters to further define the events and subscribers that trigger automation.

Trigger filters include line items, subtotal price, and total discounts. On the other hand, user filters define values related to the subscriber, including location, the number of orders, keywords triggered, and purchase history.

Postscript Review: What I Disliked

As great as Postscript is, it is not without fault. It lacks certain features, and there are things I wish it did better.

Postscript is exclusive to Shopify and Shopify Plus. If you’re operating from another e-commerce platform, you have to find another software.

They also have a very small number of integrations currently available, which makes your options very limited.

If you run out of credits, you won’t be able to send any more texts. This limitation can be troublesome if you decide to launch a campaign at the last moment. In this case, Postscript can include a feature that charges you extra once you cross your credit plan instead of stopping you from sending messages altogether.

Postscript Review: Pricing

Postscript does not have standard pricing packages. Instead, they charge you based on the number of messages you send per month.

Pricing starts from $25 per month for 2,500 messages per month, and they charge you $0.01 per message. As your volume increases, your cost per message decreases as you get discounts.

The table below gives you an example of some of the prices. Postscript offers an interactive calculator, which you can use to determine your total cost.

Messages Per Month Cost Per Message Total Cost Per Month
20,000 $0.01 $200
102,000 $0.0098 $1,000
353,000 $0.0092 $3,250
1,333,000 $0.0075 $10,000

If you plan on sending more than 1,333,000 messages, you can develop a custom plan by contacting their sales team. Before purchasing, I advise you to use the 30-day free trial they offer. It includes all their features and will allow you to see if Postscript is a good fit for your business.

The price is inclusive of all possible charges, including carrier fees. There are no hidden charges. Besides that, you get unlimited inbound messages and a unique toll-free number. For an extra cost, you also have the option to lease a unique shortcode.

Postscript Review: Best Suited For

Postscript can be best utilized by medium to large enterprises regardless of their business category. Any business looking to engage their customers using SMS marketing can make good use of it.

Small businesses can find a better value for their money on other software, as Postscript has a high cost for a small number of sent messages.

Final Thoughts

Postscript sets itself apart from other SMS marketing apps, primarily because of the sheer amount of support it provides. It has numerous features to boost your sales and grow your subscriber list.

The segmentation and automation features allow you to target your customers much more effectively, saving you money that you would otherwise waste. With proper scheduling, you are sure to convert your subscribers into successful customers.

Although their prices are higher than other alternatives, Postscript focuses on delivering value to Shopify stores that you won’t be getting anywhere else.
